‘Scream 4’ Adds Three Names and Several Layers of Security

As shooting begins in Michigan this week, the production known as Scream 4 is getting more supporting cast to go along with previously tagged slasher victims Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin and Nico Tortorella. This time around it’s a few more recognizable faces for the Wes Craven directed fourquel, including Adam Brody, Marley Shelton and Erik Knudsen.

As you know, Scream 4 will reunite Craven with screenwriter Kevin Williamson, who scripted the original film in 1996. It will also reunite them with original cast members Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox, who will reprise their characters as they return to the slasher franchise.

Adam Brody, who was recently scene in Kevin Smith’s Cop Out, will play a freshly graduated cop who was raised on healthy doses of the TV show CSI. Marley Shelton, fresh off the completion of Women in Trouble and Elektra Luxx, will play a deputy who knew Neve Campbell’s character in high school. This is the role previously rumored to be for Lake Bell. And finally, Erik Knudsen “will have a role similar to the one played by Jamie Kennedy in the first two installments, a character who is familiar with horror movie conventions and a provider of comic relief.”

According to Heat Vision, Craven and Williamson are taking extreme measures to keep the killer’s identity under lock and key, taking extra precaution, “including not sending the script to agencies. At a table read last week, the actors were told to stop reading at page 75 to prevent even those already cast in the film from knowing the climax.”

Good for them. Not only are they assembling a solid cast, but as a new version of Scream is birthed into the internet age, it will be tough to keep the killer’s identity secret for too long. Hopefully it won’t be ruined by the time the film hits theaters.
