Rumor Mill: Venom May Get His Own Movie

Dear Marvel, please keep Sam Raimi away from this movie…

I know that I am not the only one who was disappointed by the misuse of Venom in last summer’s Spider-Man 3, as fans from all over cried out over Sam Raimi’s gross disregard for one of the Marvel Universe’s coolest baddies. But despite the shriekings of die hard fans, the film still pulled of a box office take akin to robbing Fort Knox, drawing in over $890 million worldwide.

Relief could be on its way though for fans of the sinister symbiote, as rumors are now flying all over the interwebs saying that Eddie Brock and his alter-ego may be getting their own feature film. IESB made the claim on Saturday that Marvel has “met recently with several “A list writers” about a spin-off film.”

For those not in the know, Venom derives his power from an alien symbiote that originally attached itself to Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. The symbiote, which was eventually rejected by Parker because of its evil nature, ended up attached to Eddie Brock. This combination produced Venom, one of Spider-Man’s most fierce rivals. For more on Venom, I would suggest checking out his entry over at the Marvel Universe — it’s sort of a long story.

As far as this rumor goes, it definitely has be excited. While Sony and Sam Raimi proceeded to stomp all over Venom’s legacy with their film, Marvel could resurrect this character and bring him to life in a much better forum. The possibilities are endless, with characters like Carnage possibly joining the fray. That could have Marvel geeks salivating uncontrollably. For now though, this is just a rumor. But feel free to speculate amongst yourselves in the “Sound Off” section below.
