Aside from the impending casting of the next Spider-Man, perhaps the most followed piece of upcoming casting might be that of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This week two names have been added to the already long list of candidates, including South African rapper Yo-Landi Vi$$er and now Nightmare on Elm Street star Rooney Mara.
Of course it should be noted that The Playlist picked this hot tip up from an anonymous source, but it’s worth talking about either way. It’s no more silly that Yo-Landi Vi$$er’s name, that’s for sure. Besides, Mara just finished work with director David Fincher on The Social Network, where she is apparently stealing scenes left and right from star Jesse Eisenberg.
Mara and Vi$$er (that just feels silly to type) join a list that includes Carey Mulligan, Ellen Page, Kristen Stewart, Mia Wasikowska, Keira Knightley and several others. In fact, our Cole Abaius put together A Handy User’s Guide to Who Wants the Dragon Tattoo for those who haven’t been keeping up. At this point the head-spinning effects of this particular rumor mill have impaired my ability to choose which actress I think best for the role. However, I’m not convinced that either of the two ladies joining the mix today have the chops. In short, I’m still in support of Carey Mulligan.
