Walt Disney/Pixar

The best movie culture writing from around the internet-o-sphere.

There will be a quiz later. Just leave a tab open for us, will ya?

“Where Are The Kids’ Movies This Summer?” – Andrew Stewart at Variety gets rhetorical and points out that some analysts think the box office will be soft this summer without Pixar and more movies aimed at the kiddos. The ultimate answer? All the children’s movies are aimed at 35-year-old men now.

“Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones (No Baggage Review)” – Outlaw Vern asks politely that we put aside the trillion conversations we’ve had online about the middle prequel child and strive for a fresh perspective.

“Variations on the Theme of Filmmaking” – Scott Jordan Harris at Balder & Dash explores the deceptively simple prompt for the Imagination Series short film competition as well as the multiple permutations that extend from it. Let your mind wander on this set of dialogue:

A: We have to get out of this.
B: Why do you say that?
A: Look around.
B: How could this happen?

“Old news: What were movie fans talking about on May 7, 1999?” – Matt Singer at The Dissolve looks back at, whoa, a movie that definitely never got made. This is what the success of Austin Powers almost wroth. On the surface, it seems impossible to make a full movie from a quirky talk show sketch, but Mike Myers made it work (twice) with Wayne’s World, so who knows. Maybe The Dieter Movie could have worked out. If only Myers hadn’t hated his own script.
