The film’s sequel emphasized its debts to the original in its marketing material as well as its plot, but the true depth of its aesthetic influence can be seen in a new video.
The editor behind MandarinCat Visuals reconstructed the Blade Runner 2049 trailer from the original film, even replacing titles and production notes alongside its young Harrison Ford. The score fits perfectly and the narration continues to be creepy (what else do you expect from Jared Leto), but the visuals are so strikingly similar that the recut reinforces the science fiction idea that even as we progress, we repeat and recycle.
