Just when you thought everything was super awesome fantastic and life was treating you better for the first time, we’ve got even more sweet remake news coming down the pipeline. Fresh off of writing my list of 20 films from the 80s that aren’t actually getting remade, we read this quick interview from producer Frank Marshall over at io9 that has him doubtful about the Jurassic Park 4 sequel and holding steady on the NeverEnding Story reboot.
Feel free to call it out for not being a true remake, since it’ll be heading back to the book for source material, but if it looks like a remake and sounds like a remake, the shoe probably fits. Or something. I was never good with aphorisms.
The money quote:
We love the book. We’ve always thought there was an opportunity there because there are a lot of elements in the book that aren’t in the movie. It’s another one where we’re still working on the rights. It’s a huge thing to get it. And once we get that, we’ll bring on a writer. But that’s kind of off in the distance, but it’s a great story.
So it’s not going to hit theaters tomorrow or anything, but after they get the rights, it sounds like they are on the golden path to getting it all done. Neil waxed pretty negatively about the remake when we first reported it, and I remain skeptical, but I’m more interested in what die-hard Story fans have to say. I love the first film, barely stayed awake for the second, but I can’t say that I’m completely in love with it or anything. Is a reboot such a bad idea? Or is it childhood rape?
In other news – no Jurassic Park 4? What is the world coming to? And what’s with all the questions?
