Few details are known, but according to Google Translator, this is the what the headline should say in Spanish in order to announce that Will Ferrell will be starring in a Spanish language film with English subtitles.
The comedy is titled Casa de Mi Padre, which I think we all had enough high school level Spanish to translate.
Unfortunately, there are no plot details, and no casting details beyond Ferrell’s involvement as star and producer through the his Gary Sanchez Production label.
There’s no director attached yet either, but Alejandro González Iñárritu should be the first to get the call. If it’s going to be strange, it might as well swing for the fences. Sadly, that won’t happen. At least the part about Iñárritu won’t – unless he’s suddenly become one of the Funny Or Die regulars.
With no information to go on but the title, the best guess as to what the film will be:
- A faux-dramatic interpretation of “King Lear”
- The Spanish language version of “Shit My Dad Says”
- An elaborate viral marketing campaign for the Mexican DVD release of Step Brothers
The constant argument against Ferrell is that he continues to bring the same kind of humor and the same kind of characterization to his roles, but the man has far more range than people seem to give him credit for. This sounds like the biggest gimmick on the block, and it’s unclear as to whether written humor is really the best for the screen (via subtitles), but at least he’s thinking outside the bun.
