Lord and Miller have found their new project. The Martian author Andy Weir’s new novel, Artemis.

Fox and New Regency have found their directors for novelist Andy Weir’s follow-up to The Martian. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, having recently left the Han Solo feature, have signed on to direct Artemis. The book will be published on November 17th, but Fox was keen to get rights to the novel after the success of The Martian.

This is a big deal for everyone involved. Fox has this material they can have adapted for the big screen. Exciting for them because The Martain was nominated for multiple Academy Awards and won the Golden Globe for Best Musical/Comedy. Lord and Miller are eager to get back to work after having departed the Star Wars Han Solo film. According to Deadline, they have been offered countless projects in the meantime, including returning to direct The Flash feature film. Joining the project for Artemis gets them in on the ground floor of an original project. The script will be overseen by Lord and Miller while it is adapted from the novel. This allows the directors’ great creative freedom. And for Andy Weir, it means his novel will be adopted by the highly sought after duo of Lord and Miller.

The summary for Weir’s new book, Artemis, is as follows. It follows Jazz Bashara, who has serious bills to pay. She quickly finds that life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is extremely difficult. When the opportunity arises to commit the perfect crime, she takes her chance. The only problem is that she has found herself deep inside a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself.

Fox is hopeful for another success like Ridley Scott’s The Martain. With Lord and Miller on board, they have gone a long way in achieving that goal.
