Bullock, Blanchett, Hathway and more? Sign us the hell up.

One of the most anticipated movies of 2018 has just released its first footage. Ocean’s 8 will feature a cast of women as they try to pull off a jewel heist at the Met Gala. Even though the teaser trailer only showed brief images of what we can expect from Ocean’s 8, we do know one thing. Sandra Bullock’s Debbie Ocean is seen sitting in front of a grave for Danny Ocean (George Clooney), who has apparently just passed away. That might be all Debbie Ocean needs to assemble a new team and get this heist rolling.

We can also see our first glimpses of the rest of the team including Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, and Awkwafina. Ocean’s 8 is a spin-off of the Ocean films that Steven Soderberg made a few years back. You would think that this is a prequel to the events of the other Ocean’s films given the strange numbering they’ve decided to go with, but putting this movie into the current day wipes that notion away. Gary Ross is directing this picture and after he made the disappointing Free State of Jones with all of his Hunger Games money, this might a better direction for him.

UPDATE: The full-length trailer for Ocean’s 8 is below:

Sandra Bullock talked briefly about her experience making the film with Entertainment Weekly. She said, “Imagine all eight of us crammed into a makeup trailer in the morning. You think that it would be disastrous, but it was heaven, all of us just sharing information, all of us doing three jobs with families, our other jobs, the juggling. And then we get to shoot this movie together.” There is little doubt that this is an all-star cast with some of the brightest talent working in the industry today. That they seemed to have a blast putting it all together makes it that much sweeter.

While Clooney and Steven Soderbergh aren’t directing or appearing in Ocean’s 8 (that we know of), they are still on board as producers. Thus this is all in the hands of Bullock, Ross, and the incredible cast they’ve assembled. We’ll have more on Ocean’s 8 tomorrow when the full trailer launches.
