Obvious News: Burton Casts Depp as Mad Hatter

Depp will be getting his Tea Time on once again with the dark director.

When we heard the first casting news out of Tim Burton’s mouth for his Alice in Wonderland adaptation – that he’d found a girl he wanted to go through the looking glass with – we knew that the obvious news of Johnny Depp being cast as every other character would soon follow.

To our surprise, though, Depp has only been cast in one role. Despite the rumors that he could have been cast in the title role, Depp is going to be donning the extra-enormous hat and psychopathy to play The Mad Hatter – a role that also qualifies him to be in the next Batman film.

The even-cooler news that I’ve tricked you into reading by including it in this post, is that Depp is going to get a second chance to make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote with Terry Gilliam. Production on the original outing was cut short after the cataclysmic problems that usually plague Gilliam projects became too much and Depp – the only reason the financiers had given funding – dropped out.

Gilliam geeks should be excited to hear the news, although I’m sure we’re all hoping for a smooth shoot for once. His last project hit a snag, of course, with the death of its lead actor – Heath Ledger.
