New ‘Predators’ Teaser Trailer Aims Its Weapon At You

Last week, Neil learned a few things from the Predators presentation here at SXSW. He shared that knowledge with us, and today we’re able to share the actual teaser trailer with all of you.

Just duck the lasers:

This does exactly what a teaser should. It shows the sizzle but not the steak.

Brody proves a bit here that he can play the dramatic bad ass, although he doesn’t do much stunt work and that may be a major deciding factor.

We get a quick glimpse of the team – including a rope-climbing Larry “The Cowboy” Fishbourne.

My concern with the movie is that it will mirror too much of the Oscar-nominated original. What it seems like we’re looking at is a Most Dangerous Game style movie that’s the action version of a slasher flick. There’s a group of people. We’ll get to know them. They’ll die off one by one as they are hunted.

That’s not such a bad thing, but a lot is going to hinge on character creation beyond the usual action film. This is an iconic movie monster that is the most vicious killer ever devised. We’re concerned about the abilities of a group of humans versus a group of Predators because of human inability to handle even one all that well, but my true concern is that we’ll get mindlessness when we could be getting something amazing.

The teaser is great, but it’s only that. It only shows the standard bits to get us interested. I’m on board, optimistic, and hoping for a trailer to thrill me.

Still, that last shot with all those laser sights on Brody’s character is pretty damned cool.

Thoughts?
