What’s New to Stream on Hulu for December 2019

New movies, new series, and plenty of old stuff, too.
Hulu December

Hulu has been stuck in the third-place position when it comes to movie streaming behind Netflix and Amazon Prime because most people still see them strictly as a home for next-day television. They have movies too, though, and more than a few of them are gems that make Hulu a destination beyond last night’s TV shows.

The complete list of new movies and shows hitting Hulu this month — December 2019 — is below, but I wanted to highlight the best of the bunch along with several others worth seeking out.

Hulu Pick of the Month

Reprisal sees its complete first season drop on 12/6, and with its major theme being one of revenge it seems aimed squarely my direction. Abigail Spencer stars as a woman wronged by a bad-ass gang of which her brother is a member, but rather than cry about it she sets out on an elaborate and violent journey of revenge. The supporting cast includes the likes of Rodrigo Santoro, David Dastmalchian, Rhys Wakefield, and Ron Perlman, and its trailer looks pretty damn promising.

Hulu + Blumhouse Go Into the Dark Not Once But Twice

Season two of Into the Dark is two episodes deep so far with one clear winner (Uncanny Annie) and one that’s merely okay (Pilgrim), but December brings two more new entries. A Nasty Piece of Work is unveiled on 12/6, and it looks to be a class based tale of fun and terror in the vein of Ready or Not as a wealthy boss invites two employees and their spouses for a night of Christmas dinner, competition, and murder. Midnight Kiss hits your lips (and presumably yours eyes and ears too) starting 12/27, and while the story is unclear at this point we know it will revolve around New Year’s to some degree.

Indies You Missed This Year

Depraved comes together on 12/19 and is an overdue return behind the camera for filmmaker Larry Fessenden. The film offers up a Frankenstein-like tale that has received acclaim on the festival circuit, and now the rest of us can check it out too. The Sound of Silence can be heard starting 12/19 and stars Peter Sarsgaard and Rashida Jones. What’s it about? No clue, but again, it stars Peter Sarsgaard and Rashida Jones so obviously we’re all watching it regardless. The Day Shall Come hits 12/27, and while it’s a comedy it’s worth noting that it’s a comedy from Chris Morris whose last film was Four Lions (2010).
