Remember Prim? She’s Katniss’ little sister, the one who was original chosen as tribute in The Hunger Games. She’s also the one who needed to go save the cat in the last movie and almost got her big sister, the symbol of hope for an entire country, killed.
This new trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 focuses on the sisterly bond at the heart of a revolution, bringing back images from the first three movies detailing the relationship between Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Prim (Willow Shields).
As someone who has not read the books by Suzanne Collins, I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that the relationship between Katniss and Prim becomes even more significant toward the end. We’ve seen plenty of emotional torture for Katniss in the last two movies, her reluctance to become the symbol of a revolution and her attempt to balance her desire to keep her family and friends safe with her need to do what will serve the greater good. It’s a fascinating dynamic, made all the better by Jennifer Lawrence’s solid performance throughout the series.
Then again, this could all be the film’s marketing team playing up the nostalgia angle and attempting to create a compelling trailer without actually showing any new footage. It’s a good antithesis to what Scott was talking about in his article about movie trailers spoiling things earlier today. Sometimes you can make an effective trailer without any new footage whatsoever.
Regardless of what we think of this trailer, plenty of people are going to see Mockingjay – Part 2 when it hits theaters on November 20.
