We are on the eve of possibly one of the biggest superhero movies ever to be made. No, it’s not Man of Steel, but Birdman, of course! That’s right, you should be as or more excited for that superhero you don’t even know. Why? Because this movie has Michael freakin Keaton, universally beloved actor. If Keaton can make us forget Jack Frost, then who better to play a superhero? Well, at least a guy who played a superhero anyway.
In director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s (Babel) Birdman we’ll be seeing Keaton as an egotistical actor who’s never lived up to his defining superhero role. Obviously that wasn’t the case with Keaton and Batman, but because of his hero past, it’s inspired casting. Keaton hasn’t been in the spotlight for a while, so it’ll be a real treat seeing him front and center in a movie again, especially one that looks this interesting (source: Daily Mail):
How wonderful is that suit? That’s Marvel caliber costuming.
It’s funny reading Keaton will be playing a snob after having listened to his appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast. Keaton came off like a class act, which is the opposite of what we’ll see him as for Iñárritu. Hearing Keaton discussing his career with Maron was a reminder of just how good an actor he is and why it’s great seeing him in more high-profile films. He’s been keeping busy, with a string of supporting performances and a pretty impressive directorial debut, The Merry Gentlemen. It’s just been too long since we’ve seen Keaton headline a movie that’ll appear on more than a few hundred screens.
Hopefully Birdman will reach more screens than that in 2014.
