Mark Ruffalo to Play Sperm Donor for Bening and Moore’s ‘Kids’

I never pretended to be a classy writer. Even with a PhD, I don’t really think of myself as above using the word sperm in a title to grab attention. What I’m doing here is a public service – you want to know all about movies that involve sperm, and I aim to share that with you. No need to thank me. Just doing my job here.

Luckily, my title isn’t all that sensational, since it technically (and totally succinctly) sums up the latest project for Mark Ruffalo, Julianne Moore and Annette Bening.

According to Variety, the trio will star in The Kids Are All Right, a story about two siblings (played by Josh Hutcherson (that kid who plays every male kid ever) and Mia Wasikowska (who hopefully won’t be too shell-shocked after coming off the set of Burton’s Alice in Wonderland)) who seek out the man who provided the sperm that turned into them. Moore and Bening play the mothers of the children.

And, yes, that was a subtle way of saying they were a committed same-sex couple with two kids.

It’s a true indie being writer/directed by Lisa Cholodenko (who wrote/directed the fantastic Laurel Canyon and the critically-well-liked-but-not-yet-seen-by-me High Art) from the script co-written by Stuart Blumberg (who wrote Keeping the Faith and The Girl Next Door and who I believe is also writing the Slap Shot remake currently).

It just started shooting today, so as with most indies, there’s little information on when this thing may or may not see the light of day. It definitely sounds cool, though, and the personnel involved make it worthy enough to keep an eye out for it.
