Magnolia Gets Sweaty in ’76 With ‘Night Catches Us’

Considering that I will pretty much watch anything with Anthony Mackie in it and that I will pretty much listen to anything that The Roots puts out musically, I’m beyond thrilled to see that Magnolia plans on releasing the Sundance drama Night Catches Us.

The story takes place in the sultry summer of ’76 in Philadelphia when a former Black Panther (Mackie) returns to the city. The drama heats up as he encounters the people of his past, specifically a woman named Patricia (played by Kerry Washington).

The whole thing sounds fantastic. Sign me up.

Mackie is a powerhouse actor, and if he got the right mainstream role, he could be the Sean Penn or Marlon Brando or Morgan Freeman of this generation. He’s got the critical acclaim – now he just needs the exposure.

Magnolia plans for a Fall release.
