Let Me In Trailer: Something Wicked This Way Comes

Chloe Moretz in Let Me In

For Cloverfield director Matt Reeves, the road to remaking one of the most prized international thrillers of the past decade has been a bumpy one. Speculation, skepticism and the ability of fankind to hold tight to the original has caused unrest over the mere idea that they would remake Let The Right One In so soon. That, and how can you improve upon near-perfection? But with this first international trailer for the remake, titled Let Me In, he’s taking a big step in the right direction.

The story is the same. A mysterious murder coincides with the arrival of a mysterious little girl named Abby (Chloe Moretz, Kick-Ass) and her elder companion (Richard Jenkins). Trying to live the small, quiet town life, Abby finds a friend in her next door neighbor named Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Road). But while they do become fast friends, Owen also begins to learn Abby’s secret. She needs blood, and she needs his help to get it.

As fans will note, there are several shots (and presumably scenes) that appear lifted directly from the original. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, the more closely Reeves and team stick to John Ajvide Lindqvist’s original book, the more the film will match the tone of Tomas Alfredson’s original film. And a tonal match, at the very least, would be a good thing.

Check out the first international trailer below. Let Me In is due in theaters October 1, 2010.
