Several news sources are reporting that the preliminary autopsy of actor Heath Ledger has proved inconclusive, meaning a need for more extensive testing. Results from those tests should be back in 10 to 14 days.

Early speculation contends that stress from his most recent role as The Joker in The Dark Knight along with an addiction to pain killers and use of sleeping pills may have contributed to his death. Authorities are not treating it as a suicide currently as there was no note found on the scene.

The death will not affect the release of The Dark Knight as of yet, but there is some question as to how it will affect production on The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, the film Ledger was working on with Terry Gilliam.

CNN has the story here, AICN weighs in here.

We’ll pretend that every major news outlet isn’t covering this story around the clock and continue to bring you updates as they come in. Also, stay tuned as we will be paying tribute to Ledger’s young, yet impressive career in the coming days.
