Exploring some new details about ‘The House That Jack Built.’
One of the more exciting in-development projects at Berlin this year, Lars von Trier’s newest film The House That Jack Built is in motion, with new information and casting details announced over the last few days.
On Friday, Variety shared an exclusive photo (as seen above) from Lars himself, which he described as “an evocative image with a cinematic reference”. While not a still from the film itself, its homage to the iconic 1937 horror film Vampyr (directed by Carl Theodore Dreyer, who is Danish like von Trier) speaks volumes about the film’s style. While von Trier’s films are rooted focused on the harsh realities of life, he has a deep knowledge of film and literature that shows in his work. The House That Jack Built, which will follow the violent deeds of a serial killer who views his sinful works of violence as works of art, will no doubt provide a killer story for von Trier’s literacy. The title itself is a reference to an old nursery rhyme.
Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter announced yesterday that Riley Keough (Mad Max: Fury Road, American Honey, It Comes At Night) and Sofie Grabol (The Killing) had been casted to star opposite Matt Dillon, who plays the titular serial killer Jack.
The House That Jack Built will begin filming in Sweden in March of this year before moving to Copenhagen in May. It will be released in 2018.
