Kwon Sang-Woo Rumored as The Green Hornet’s Kato

A cautiously optimistic report from across the Pacific is saying that 32-year old Korean actor Kwon Sang-Woo has been called upon to replace Stephen Chow in the role of Kato and star alongside Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet.

This can all be chalked up to a trip to rumorville for the moment, but as our friends at Twitch point out, if this is true it would be the third Korean heartthrob – including Lee Byeong-Heon in G.I. Joe and Rain in Ninja Assassin – taking on a major action movie role this year. Here’s a direct quote from the source, a Korean site called HanCinema:

Kwon Sang-woo has received a lovecall from the Hollywood film “Green Hornet” for the character Kato that was supposed to be Stephen Chow’s role…Asia’s star Kwon Sang-woo has been able to break through the language barrier and take part in this film! It is known that Kwon’s English hasn’t been perfect throughout the audition with the main actor Seth Rogen, however, it was successful.

Kwon Sang-Woo is best known for roles in Korean releases Volcano High and Once Upon a Time in High School and I’m told that he’s shown some wicked martial arts skills in the past. His skills can be seen briefly in the Volcano High teaser below.

At this point there is no official announcement, but it is worth throwing out there. The Michel Gondry directed film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2010.

What do you think of Kwon Sang-Woo instead of Stephen Chow as Kato?
