In an interview with The Two-One-Three, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins director McG may have given up some big hints as to who will play the skin on the outside of the Terminator’s metallic skeleton. Who would follow in the line of Terminators that include Arnold Schwarzenegger and Robert Patrick? How about No Country for Old Men star Josh Brolin.
“We’re prepping the picture right now. The script is largely done, whether or not we’re able to prep off of it, obviously we want to continue to work on it, punch it up and we’re hoping for an expedient finish to the writer’s strike. But I’ve got my fingers crossed that in a week or two it will be over,” McG said.
He also went on to say that the 4th film will take place “post Judgment day. So there really is no continuation, you know what I mean? Its sort of a different animal, whereas the first two pictures on this thing are Terminators from the future, this picture takes place in 2019.”
McG also squashed rumors that Christian Bale’s part as John Connor will be a small one, saying that “John Connor’s a major player in it – Christian Bale’s playing that part.”
When asked about his dream Terminator, McG dropped a few names. “…there’s guys out there like Russell Crowe and Eric Bana, bring a good physicality, they do what they do, but I don’t know if they’re exactly right at the end of the day. (Smiles) Josh Brolin is a very exciting actor – we’ll see.”
Does this mean that we can expect Josh Brolin to be taking the role? Who knows. At this point it could all just be wishful thinking on the part of McG, but it doesn’t sound like a bad idea. I don’t know if I would dig Russell Crowe as the Terminator, but Eric Bana wouldn’t be a bad choice. As for Brolin, I think he could pull it off, although I can’t ever remember him going into wicked badass mode. At least, not since The Goonies.
Either way, the possible addition of Brolin to this cast makes this film a lot more exciting. It’s been a very back and forth emotional rollercoaster for fans. First they announced McG’s involvement and everyone was on suicide watch, then they added Bale and we all got down off the ledge. This news could continue to get people in the mood for a 4th Terminator. Then again, only time will tell — I still wouldn’t be surprised if Paris Hilton lands a role in this film before too long.
Talking Point: In your opinion, would Josh Brolin make a good Terminator?
