I heart John Malkovich in a mostly platonic way so I view his addition to any film as a good thing. Granted he’s like Samuel Jackson (but talented) in that he refuses to say “No” to any offer for any role in any movie, but at least he usually brings a degree of class and zaniness to his character that makes the movie that much better. And now he’s bringing the Malkovich zing to his first western. (That may be incorrect, but I can’t think of another he’s been in… anyone?)
Per Variety, Malkovich has signed on to the upcoming Jonah Hex. Josh Brolin stars as Hex, and Malkovich will play a wealthy Southern plantation owner named Turnbull who blames Hex for his son’s death at the hands of Union soldiers. Malkovich as a raging, maniacal, Southern madman? Sounds awesome. The movie is based on a DC Comics series and will be directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears A Who).
What’s your favorite Malkovich role? And seriously, has he made a western before?
