Japanese 2012 Trailer Isn’t Kidding About Destroying Earth

Having seen the first trailer for Roland Emmerich’s 2012, I can safely say that the director has something against the planet Earth. His CG-heavy movie will star John Cusack, Danny Glover, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Amanda Peet as people trying to escape the end of the world, as predicted by the Mayan calendar. This isn’t the first time Emmerich has tried to destroy the world, he almost let aliens take us out in Independence Day. But we all know how that worked out – and who knows, maybe this time he’ll actually destroy the Earth outright.

We get more heavy-duty destruction in the latest international trailer, which comes to us from the film’s official Japanese website. In fact, this trailer is all destruction, all the time. For me, this is nothing but a cool ride. With Emmerich, we are guaranteed that the visuals will be in line and that things will be destroyed in focus. His style is pretty straightforward and despite his minimalist focus on story and character, his movies are often quite fun to watch. Based on the trailer below, I’d say 2012 is ready to fall into the fun category.

2012 is in theaters November 13, 2009. Check out the Japanese trailer below.
