Jamie Bell and Connie Nielsen Join ‘Nymphomaniac’; Plus More on That Explicit Sex Lars von Trier Has Planned

Lars von Trier’s latest production, Nymphomaniac, has been causing quite a stir lately, due to its casting of mainstream actors in a movie that is said to contain explicit, non-simulated sex scenes. Starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, and Shia LaBeouf, the film is said to be about a sex-addicted, 50-year-old woman (Gainsbourg) recounting the erotic adventures she’s participated in throughout her life.

The plan from the beginning has been to make two versions of the film, one that’s edited for relatively mainstream consumption and one that features hardcore depictions of sex acts, but exactly how far von Trier and his crew are going to go in that unrated edition has been kind of unclear. A new casting report from THR sheds a little bit of light on that, however.

In addition to revealing that British actor Jamie Bell and Boss actress Connie Nielsen have joined the cast, the trade also did some digging regarding the sex acts that the actors are reportedly going to be involved in. While the steamy scenes in question will absolutely “be real” like LaBeouf has claimed in the press, the film’s producers add in the addendum that they will also be performed “with the help of body doubles and visual effects.”

This, of course, is great news, because it could possible save us from the trauma of having to look into former Disney star Shia LaBeouf’s eyes while he is visibly aroused, which would be a great service to humanity. Nymphomaniac seems to now have its casting complete, and will begin shooting this Tuesday in Germany.
