Jackie Weaver in Talks to Join David O. Russell’s ‘The Silver Linings Playbook’
It has come to my attention that we here at FSR have left David O. Russell’s upcoming film The Silver Linings Playbook criminally uncovered. We’ve got one little mention of it being announced in a Movie News After Dark and that’s it. Probably it’s time to remedy that, because Russell is a director who always makes interesting stuff, even when it ends up being kind of a mess. And this time around he’s assembled a pretty intriguing cast to yell at and be mean to during filming.
The Silver Linings Playbook is an adaptation of a Matthew Quick novel about a former mental patient (Bradley Cooper) who, upon getting out of the crazy house, decides to take up a new outlook on life wherein he looks for the silver linings in every situation. That’s why the movie is called what it is. Also, there’s the business of trying to win his ex-wife back and a budding relationship with an eccentric neighbor (Jennifer Lawrence). It’s mentioned that the neighbor is struggling with some problems of her own, so it sounds like she’s got some Manic Pixie Dream Girl potential. Robert De Niro is also in the movie, but I’m not sure who he’s playing. Good cast, right? Told you.
And it’s about to get better. According to THR, Jackie Weaver is the latest actor in talks to join the cast. She’s up for the role of the Cooper character’s mother, and if you’ve seen her Oscar Nominated performance as the maternal head of a crime family from Animal Kingdom, then you know that this is pretty exciting news. Weaver has some chops. And now that you have a primer on The Silver Linings Playbook, we can all start looking forward to it together. Go, team, go.
