‘Jack the Giant Killer’ Delayed; Talented Young Actors in Talks

Brian Singer has been taking meetings with the likes of Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) and Andrew Garfield (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) for the lead role in his next film, Jack the Giant Killer. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the film’s release has been delayed, and will not begin shooting until February 2011.

The reason for the delay, as reported by Heat Vision, is that the production needs more time to work out the visual effects. Being a film about a young farmer who leads a dangerous expedition into a land of giants, the film will be very effects heavy. Singer’s plan is to have pre-visualizations ready prior to the shoot, so that while he’s filming he can see the giants in-camera. This will (hopefully) allow him to direct more naturalistic performances and capture the scale of the film prior to effects being finalized. It’s a risk, as the project was due to begin shooting this summer, but one that could very well pay off in the end. Also, based on the talent he’s been talking to, I’d say he’s headed in the right direction.
