We’ll all float again. Real soon

We’ll all float again. Real soon.

Given how IT has performed at the box office, the question wasn’t if a sequel would be coming, but rather when. Now we know the exact moment Pennywise the Clown will once again terrorize the citizens of Derry. New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. announced that the next chapter of IT will hit theaters on September 6, 2019.

The first film was always thought of as a bit of a gamble for the studio. A mega budget horror film with no known actors (outside Finn Wolfhard and Jaeden Lieberher) that only tells half a story, coming on the heels of the Stephen King-based box office disaster The Dark Tower. Well, IT covered expectations and then some.

IT tells the story of a group of kids known as the Losers Club who grow up the small town of Derry. They have to team up to defeat the evil Pennywise the Clown or else they’ll meet their doom. The sequel will cover the other half of King’s novel, showing the kids as adults again trying to fight off Pennywise, while also providing flashbacks so that the children actors will be present once again.

Luckily fans won’t have to wait until the sequel to get more of director Andy Muschietti’s hit film. It was recently announced that the home video release of the film could contain upwards of 15 minutes of additional footage not seen in theaters. Perhaps the studio will even roll this version out to theaters to get return audiences. Regardless, more IT is coming and that is great news for fans of the film. We’ll have plenty more coverage of IT we learn more about the adult actors joining the film and other exciting news.
