In Today’s Cherry-on-Top News, Cameron Crowe to Write and Direct New Film That Will Star Emma Stone

If you are a fan of either Cameron Crowe or Emma Stone, this news will likely be met with a hurricane of love – or just a tidal wave of “who cares what it’s about?!” Deadline Hollywood reports that Sony has sewn up a deal to make an all-new Crowe film (along with producer Scott Rudin), one that the filmmaker has already written and will direct himself.

The outlet’s post doesn’t tell us much of anything about the film – including its title – but does report that it is a love story that has a tone “reminiscent” of films like Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire (identically, my two favorite Crowe features). Oh, and it’s going to star Emma Stone.

Meanwhile, Variety’s Jeff Sneider has tweeted that the film is actually a rewritten version of Crowe’s long-stalled Deep Tiki.

First announced in 2008, the first incarnation of the film was set to star Reese Witherspoon and Ben Stiller and drew comparisons to Joe Versus the Volcano (as Collider explains, “the male lead was a disgraced military weapons consultant who, after being deployed to a dormant base in Hawaii to supervise the launch of a spy satellite, ‘starts to discover himself and the relationships he left behind against the backdrop of mythical island lore and Cold War-esque diplomacy.’ The story involved visions of Hawaiian Gods and a sacrifice being thrown into a volcano”), though none of that has been confirmed as of yet.

If you’re interested in more Deep Tiki, The Playlist wrote a script review of the original version back in 2008, which is definitely worth your time.
