If one of the things on your bucket list is to see Joaquin Phoenix playing Zach Galifianakis playing Joaquin Phoenix, then this teaser trailer should have you running to grab your scratching-out pen.
Many, many, many words have been written about the (probably fake) documentary I’m Still Here which chronicles the end of Joaquin Phoenix’s acting career and his struggle to turn it into a rapping career.
However, none of those words are adequate enough to paint the word poem that is this self-righteous pile of teaser trailer.
Smug. Self-righteous. Uninteresting.
There are only two options here:
- The documentary is a full-scale look at the perceived importance of celebrity meant to test the very supporters of that asinine concept using a moderately famous method actor who has allowed an audience to peel back the curtain to see exactly what they’re worshiping; or
- It’s a big, fat sack of crap.
We shall see.
As for the trailer, if it’s supposed to be subversive, I can’t imagine it actually pulling anyone into the theater to work its sarcastic magic. It makes the film look like something that annoying guy down the hall who pretends to love Godard would wet himself to go see.
