Lyra meets Lee Scoresby in Trollesund

Hester, Lee’s dæmon, looks wonderfully lively and alert. She is going to be voiced by Cristela Alonzo. Although they are seen interacting with humans, neither the dæmons nor the armored bears speak in any of the released trailers (with the exception of the final line in the first trailer, which seems to have been spoken by an off-screen Stelmaria, Lord Asriel’s snow leopard dæmon.) Why this key aspect of Lyra’s world has been left out of all promotional material remains to be seen, but perhaps they are afraid that it would seem too cheesy or childish to viewers not familiar with the series.

Lin-Manual Miranda looks suave as Lee Scoresby. He’ll certainly bring a different vibe to the role than Sam Elliott, who played the character in the 2007 film, but so far he looks confident in the aeronaut’s boots.

Lyra and Lee address a roaring Iorek Byrnison, and Lee looks rather pleased with himself. BBC only recently announced that he will be voiced by Joe Tandberg.

Lord Asriel is shown in the North, likely capturing the photograms that he presents at Jordan College, instigating many of the events of the novels. The second shot might be his retreat at Svalbard.

Like the speaking dæmon and bears, Svalbard is something that has been kept out of all of the trailers so far. It’s a very cool location to keep under wraps, but not something that can be snuck past fans of the books since it is such a key location in the climax of the novel.
