Jeremy Renner and Noomi Rapace should probably start collecting bread crumbs now as it appears they’ll be playing Hansel and Gretel in the near future.
Renner is in Venice promoting his new film, The Town, and he gave an interview where he spoke about upcoming projects. He mentioned production on Mission Impossible IV starts soon but then added that he’s also attached to Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. “I play him [Hansel],” Renner said, “and Noomi Rapace plays Gretel. They have become adults, are damned, and are going on witch hunting.”
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is set to be the English-language debut of director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) and follows the adventures of the two fairy tale siblings who’ve grown up to become kick-ass vanquishers of evil. As should be expected from Wirkola and producer Adam McKay the movie’s tone is going to planted firmly in cheek.
Renner has also been cast as Hawkeye in the upcoming Avengers film, and Rapace is currently being courted by Hollywood due to the runaway success of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and its two sequels.
