‘Hanna’ Trailer Kicks Ass And Throws Down A Gauntlet To Other Teen Assassins

It’s best to go into this trailer with no expectations which explains the absence of an introduction. Also, I didn’t write one. But back to the trailer…

Hanna stars Saoirse Ronan as a young girl whose entire life has been preparing her for survival. She’s strong, agile, fierce, and deadly, and it’s all thanks to her father (Eric Bana). He’s ex-CIA, and when he sends Hanna out into the world on her first and only mission the girl is forced to kill, elude capture, and come face to face with emotions she’s never known before.

Kick-Ass aside, it’s still jarring to see a young teenage girl engaged in such behavior. Especially when it’s played deadly serious instead of for laughs. Ronan is a fantastic actress and she seems more than capable of portraying this steely-eyed child.

Director Joe Wright’s resumé doesn’t exactly scream confidence when it comes to the action genre… his last three films were The Soloist, Atonement, and Pride & Prejudice. Judging by the trailer though he looks to have the action beats down fairly well. The trick will be balancing the action with Hanna’s growing awareness of her own humanity as she comes to grips with her behavior in a world where morality matters… oh hell, who am I kidding. I just want to see a gun-toting little girl kicking ass.

Hanna opens April 8th, 2011.
