Hailee Steinfeld Gets Some Clout and a New Project

Before Hailee Steinfeld was cast in the Coen brothers’ True Grit nobody had ever heard of her. Now she has a movie studio building projects completely around her. That’s what happens when your performance is so good that it’s universally praised and you get your name mentioned over and over again throughout awards season. Steinfeld may have just cracked the code on how to be successful in Hollywood: be better than everyone else.

While it’s yet to be seen if her Oscar nomination is going to turn into a full fledged “Academy Award Winning Actress” tag to put next to her name, Paramount Pictures is betting that the movie-going public wants to see more from her anyways. They’ve acquired the rights to a still unpublished novel titled “Forgotten” by author Cat Patrick and are hoping to turn it into Steinfeld’s next starring vehicle.

The book is about the character of London Lane, a 16 year-old girl whose memory is erased at 4:33 every night. She wakes up in the morning with no memory of her past, only visions of what is going to happen in her future. Huh? That sounds confusing. Apparently she gets sniggered when she meets a boy who gives her no future visions, adding a fated teen romance angle to the whole thing. If she can’t remember the past then how does she know that she’s supposed to have visions of the future? This thing sounds like it’s going to need a talented screenwriter to present things coherently. Plus it will have to stand up to comparisons with the Dana Carvey classic Clean Slate. Best of luck to Paramount and Steinfeld on this one, I would hate to see a young actress’ talent go to waste right after she has gotten out of the gate.
