Black Panther, the Turd Burglar, and other heroes are heading to Netflix this month.

Here’s what’s coming to Netflix this month!

Some people spend their days arguing over the merits of Netflix and how it’s “killing cinema” as we know it, but the rest of us know better. It’s just one more way to re-watch the movies we already love and find new ones to cherish. This month sees plenty of both hitting the service.

The complete list of movies and shows hitting Netflix this month — September 2018 — is below, but first I’m going to highlight a few that stand apart from the bunch.

Netflix Pick of the Month

Three films in, and Jeremy Saulnier has proven himself to be one hell of a filmmaker. His debut (Murder Party) is bloody fun, but his next two films — Blue Ruin, Green Room — are modern genre classics. So yeah, we’re pretty damn excited for his fourth feature, Hold the Dark (2018), which premieres on the 28th. Jeffrey Wright stars as a writer who heads to Alaska and faces off against men, wolves, and nature itself. Hell yes.

New! New? New.

Netflix leans heavy into “older” films and their own Originals, but they still get their share of new movies too. This year’s biggest theatrical hit is front and center and available now — Black Panther (2018) is now streaming for the three of you haven’t seen it yet and for the rest of us to watch a second or third time. A Wrinkle in Time (2018) arrives on 9/25, and while it didn’t quite set the box-office ablaze it’s a curious creation with an appealing cast. And then there’s The Hurricane Heist (2018) which blows in on 9/26. It really should have been an updated take on Hard Rain, but it lacks that film’s charm, personality, and sincerity and replaces them all with CG weather shenanigans.

Netflix Original Series!

American Vandal: Season 2 arrives on 9/14, and while the first season teased outrage with its dick-heavy graffiti the second ups the ante dramatically as the team investigates the culprit behind a mass case of public diarrhea. If the ridiculously good trailer above is any indication number two looks to be balancing the laughs and attention to documentary detail just as well this time around. BoJack Horseman: Season 5 trots in on 9/14, and it’s a show well past the risk of a sophomore slump. Last season was hilarious, as usual, but it also left a hoof-shaped hole in our hearts. We can’t wait to fill it with more horse shit. A week later brings the intriguing premiere of Maniac on 9/21. The series is headlined by Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, co-stars the hilarious Billy Magnussen, and is directed/co-written by CaryJoji Fukunaga (True Detective), and while not much is known about the plot yet those details are more than enough to guarantee we’ll be watching.

The Horror of It All!

I haven’t seen Delirium (2018) yet, but it’s from director Dennis Iliadis who also delivered the terrific Last House on the Death (2009) remake. so I’ll be giving it a spin. Stephanie (2017) is also new to me, and while director Akiva Goldsman is a red flag it stars Frank Grillo so I’m obligated to watch it anyway. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) is the prequel no one asked for to Tobe Hooper’s classic, but it has its fans as it once again essentially tells the same story (albeit with less style). Finally, The Witch (2015) casts its spell on 9/17, and while it’s not for everyone fans of slow-burn horror with killer third acts will have a blast with it.
