Gobble Up Invaders, a Thanksgiving Horror Film That Hits Close to Home

Short of the Day

And you thought your holiday guests were bad…

As you’re preparing to be surrounded by food, friends, family and other assorted loved ones this Thanksgiving, maybe you should take a moment to be grateful it won’t be these two waiting when you open the front door tomorrow. Invaders is a short horror film from writer-director Jason Kupfer that features a pair of psycho would-be home invaders (Jordan Woods-Robinson and Ricky Wayne) staking out a house on Thanksgiving night and getting into character before attempting to storm in with axes, intent on slicing up something besides the turkey. Let’s just say things don’t go as planned.

Besides being menacing in a comical, almost-absurd way, Invaders is also spectacularly gory in a Tarantino-esque fashion, just over the top without being too far-fetched. Like the best films in its genre, Invaders turns on a dime and transforms the horror you were expecting into one you most definitely were not. It’s a gasp-inducing, giggle-inducing, sharp and crisp film, but you don’t have to take my word for it because Invaders is not only a Vimeo Staff Pick – which is legitimately an illustrious honor – but it’s also been selected by dozens of film festivals and to-date has captured 13 awards, including Runner-up in the Best Horror Short category at Fantastic Fest and a Gold Audience Award from the crowd at the Toronto After Dark Festival.

So between the parade, the football games and the wishbone, be sure to carve out six or so minutes this holiday for Invaders, you’ll be thankful you did. Here endeth the puns.
