Recently, Geoffrey Rush briefly sat with MTV to talk Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides. He didn’t know the title, or when it was shooting, and he can’t get Jerry Bruckheimer to call him back. Are we sure they didn’t replace Barbosa with Bryce Dallas Howard?
What we do know, however, is that Rush is free to shoot in the spring of 2010. He’s expecting that On Stranger Tides will be a new sort of Pirates movie, and not just one based on a ride at Disney World or how much rum Johnny Depp can drink before his eyeliner inevitably smudges.
“They’re waiting for the screenplay writers to put together something that’s beyond the trilogy,” Rush said. “[To] take it off into a new direction, so that it’s fresh and hopefully really interesting for an audience, that they’re not going to just sausage-machine out something else, which wouldn’t be so good.” You are correct, Mr. Rush. We don’t want any uncalled for sausage, or the machine it came from.
If you’d like to watch the entire 14 second video, head on over to MTV.
