Game of Thrones: The Best Moments of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’

This week we cry because our hearts are full, next week we probably cry because everyone we love is dead. Ah, the 'Game of Thrones' life.
Game Of Thrones

It became clear as soon as the runtimes for season 8 were released that the movie-length episode 3 was going to be the big Battle of Winterfell, which meant we all knew that episode 2 was going to be the calm before the storm. And that it would be episode 69, so something naughty was probably going to happen.

There was sin. There was sweetness. “Ser Brienne” is canon. Daniel Portman has one fine set of pipes. Basically, it was fanservice all the way, but you know what, fans deserve happiness. As do all the people who are about to fight a giant zombie army. So let’s go through some of the highlights of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” because hot damn was there some good content:

“The Things We Do For Love”

Somehow, Bran’s blank stare and monotone “Three-Eyed Raven” gig have gone from totally whatever to actually the best. The level of petty energy coming from the Bran this season is off the charts, and it could not be more enjoyable to watch. No one in the room but Jaime Lannister knew what the hell Bran was going on about, but us viewers at home did, and it was glorious. You go, Bran Stark. You go.

Sansa Gets to the Point

Daenerys tried to get on Sansa’s good side with a heart to heart, but Sansa is here to ask the tough questions. And boy did she. “What about the North?” Yes, Daenerys, what about the North? (And in case you were wondering, that translates to request: DENIED.) Seriously, why are people pretending like Jon Snow is ruling Winterfell when Sansa is clearly running the show?

That Theon/Sansa Reunion

I didn’t think I felt particularly strongly about their friendship, but then they were hugging, and then there was this prickly sensation in my eyes, and then I was crying a little, so I guess I do? There are some scenes that you know are going to get you, like Jon seeing Arya again, but then there are sneaky ones. This was a sneaky one.

Tormund Intercepts Jon with a Flying Hug

Edd, Beric, and Sandor made it back from their day trip to the art installation at the Last Hearth. Jon saw his old brother/successor and lit up like a Christmas tree. And then he was rushing over, and the music swelled, and it was all incredibly bromantic—and then Tormund came in hot from left field with serious Giantsbane energy and the not-weird-at-all greeting of “my little crow,” which, really, is the best direction the scene could have possibly gone in. And Jon, of course, immediately replied with an intense, “I thought we’d lost you,” and suddenly it’s like one of Game of Thrones‘ top 10 most romantic moments.

I kid, I kid. Only not really. Sometimes it’s decidedly unclear if Tormund is into Brienne or Jon. Actually, you know what, it’s both. …Yeah, it’s definitely both. You live your best life, Tormund. Live your best life.
