Game of Thrones: The Best Moments of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’

This week we cry because our hearts are full, next week we probably cry because everyone we love is dead. Ah, the ‘Game of Thrones’ life.

Grey Worm Seals His Fate

Knightoftheseven Missandei Gw

“When Daenerys takes her throne, there will be no place for us here.” Oh no. “When the war is over, and she has won, do you want to grow old in this place?” OH NO. No, my dude, why? Why would you do that to yourself? Honestly, it’s a wonder Grey Worm didn’t trip and manage to impale himself on something walking out of this scene because talking about the future like that is the narrative equivalent of digging your own grave. It’s a sweet scene, and when Grey Worm dies I’m going to cry, but also, he is definitely dead. So very, very dead. Missandei is probably going to go back to the beaches of Naath so she can bury her beau’s three-headed dragon pin in the sand because that’s how definitely dead he is.

GHOST LIVES

Knightoftheseven Ghost

Hey, buddy! Long time, no see. Sure, Ghost is just chilling in the background, but he’s there! Which means he hasn’t been turned into one of Daenerys’s new coats like people were starting to suspect (honestly, it was beginning to get a little worrisome, the resemblance was uncanny), so hurrah!

THE SS GENDRYA SAILS

Knightoftheseven Arya Gendry

SO THAT HAPPENED. Meg Shields and I figured episode 69 was going to feature a sex scene. And that it was going to be a pretty major one. We thought it was going to be Jaime and Brienne, because Jaime’s character arc, and blah blah blah, and they wouldn’t have Gendry and Arya go from 0 to 100 that fast, would they?

But they DID, dear reader, they did. And they did. And then they were lying under Gendry’s cloak, which may or may not mean something. I feel like Game of Thrones likes foreshadowing too much for that not to mean something. Some online have speculated that the last shot of her staring into the distance suggests she wasn’t that into it, but particularly considering she, as mentioned, is literally snuggling his cloak, I feel like her expression is more along the lines of “oh shit, feelings, what do I do with these?”—but we shall have to wait and see. One thing is for certain, though: Robert Baratheon’s ghost is so proud right now, y’all. So proud.

Brienne Gets Knighted

Knightoftheseven Brienne Rise

So Brienne got knighted, which is a dream come true. The first lady knight in all of Westeros, and while it’s long overdue, there could not be a more qualified candidate. If your heart did not melt at that smile, I regret to inform you that you do not have a heart (you should probably see your doctor about that, by the way, I’ve heard it’s serious). And she got knighted by someone who totally looks at her like she’s the queen of the world, and got a standing ovation from someone else who also looks at her like she’s the queen of the world, and I am absolutely positively here for Brienne of Tarth appreciation. In my house, it is Brienne of Tarth appreciation week every single week and I am so glad Game of Thrones officially got on board.

Podrick Sings

Knightoftheseven Pod

Daniel Portman has the voice of an angel and Game of Thrones does love its Lord of the Rings references, so you know they had to do their version of Pippin singing “A Walking Song” while Faramir tries to retake Osgiliath, because that scene is #iconic and punches you right in the feelings, which is exactly the sort of energy that David Benioff and D. B. Weiss are going for, what with this being the final season and all. In sum: original? No. Effective? Oh yeah, big time.

But also: Podrick Payne is both the best at sex and he can sing?! Presuming he lives through episode three I think we can definitely confirm Westeros’ most eligible bachelor.
