It seems that we can’t escape comic book news this week, and it keeps piling on with the first clip from the comic strip adaptation Tamara Drewe from director Stephen Frears.
Since the film is playing at Cannes this week, the official website has a look at the film.
I know almost nothing about Tamara Drewe, and from the looks of the clip, the people of her town don’t either. According to Wikipedia, the comic strip the film is based off of is a reworking of “Far From the Madding Crowd” which means that Drewe is most likely a beauty coming into the village to seduce a shepherd. Or that the story has been modernized.
Which, if you take into consideration the Daisy Dukes that Arterton has painted on herself for the role, I’d say modernity has come.
