The classic Brothers Grimm tale Little Red Riding Hood seems to be getting a lot of play lately. We’ve been reporting on an Amanda Seyfried-led big screen project that will see the red hood make a comeback. And now today we get word from SyFy that Dr. Horrible star Felicia Day, probably best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer or in the online web series The Guild, will don the red cape and run from wolves as well.
It’s all part of a new SyFy series that will reimagine classic fairy tales, which kicked off last month with Beauty and the Beasts: A Dark Tale, which starred Estella Warren. Other planned adaptations include Sinbad, Aladdin and Hansel and Gretel. Red (as it’s being titled) will follow a werewolf-hunting descendant of the original Red Riding Hood, played by Day, as she navigates a world in which her fiance has been unfortunately bitten by a werewolf. With her wolf-hunting family ready to put the dog down, Red sets off to find a cure. Pontypool star Stephen McHattie (total badass) will also star.
I know that I can’t be the only person thinking that this is perfect casting. Day is just the sort of geeky, charismatic actress that a role like this might need in order to come to life in a way that is both interesting and fun. She’s also adorable. That’s right, adorable. I’m now basing my opinions of SyFy shows on the adorable-factor of it’s leading ladies. It worked with Battlestar Galactica.
