The world seems to be falling apart at every turn these days, but there’s at least one good thing on the horizon as we’re just over two weeks away from Fantastic Fest 2017. The first wave title announcement of films playing this year already had us excited, stoked, and otherwise stimulated with films as varied as Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Brawl in Cell Block 99, and now the final wave is here with a second batch of good news.
Most are new to us, but we’re excited to re-watch one of our Sundance favorites, Thoroughbred, the fantastically entertaining Thai film, Bad Genius, and the new 4K restoration of Takashi Miike’s Ichi the Killer. Among the new ones we can’t wait to check out… Applecart starring Barbara Crampton and AJ Bowen, Mom and Dad with Nicolas Cage, and new films from Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Alexander Payne, and Kornel Mundruczo.
And of course we’re going to see Bat Pussy.
Check out the official announcement below including all of the titles included in the final wave!
“Alamo Drafthouse’s Fantastic Fest is proud to announce its final wave of big-screen bizarro from all corners of the cinematic world with Alexander Payne’s masterpiece-in-miniature, DOWNSIZING, bestowed the honor of closing night film. Fantastic-Fest first-timers making their way to Austin include Cory Finley and his razor sharp debut THOROUGHBRED, and fan-favorite tough guy extraordinaire Frank Grillo, who will be on hand to flex some muscle for the World Premiere of his nail-biting getaway drama, WHEELMAN.
