Exclusive Trailer for the Highly Anticipated Documentary The Resilient Heart

By  · Published on January 22nd, 2017

Oscar nominee Susan Froemke’s next film is about heart disease.

It has been five years since we last saw new work from Susan Froemke, the Oscar-nominated and Emmy- and Grammy-winning documentarian who started out working with the Maysles Brothers on such films as Grey Gardens and Christo in Paris. Back in 2012, she actually had two docs, Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare, co-directed by Matthew Heineman, and her solo effort Wagner’s Dream.

Now she’s back at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend premiering Discovery Channel’s Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman, co-directed by John Hoffman and Beth Aala, but she also has another solo feature on the way, as well. Titled The Resilient Heart, it follows Dr. Valentin Fuster, one of the most renowned cardiologists in the world, as he continues his study and treatment of heart disease all over the globe.

We don’t know when the film will have its premiere, but we are proud to debut its first trailer below.

The Resilient Heart looks like a strong profile piece on Fuster and a fascinating observation of his work. Like Escape Fire, it appears to be a doc about solutions and specifically preventative healthcare rather than the system of disease management we in American and increasingly other parts of the world focus on, usually too late. Fuster’s aim, as we see, is to educate people very early about how to avoid one of the biggest killers on the planet.

Here’s the official short synopsis from the film’s website: “With heart disease on the rise, Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, and a team of doctors set out to stem the tide through science, education and early intervention. Their ultimate goal: to promote heart health worldwide.”

Stay tuned for details on when the doc will make its debut, or sign up here for updates.
