Encouraging New ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Poster Invites You to Tea

By now, I dread seeing announcements that Tim Burton is working on a new project. The reason? It makes me nervous. Why does it make me nervous? Because I idolized the man for a period of his career, but have felt scorned once too many times, leading to an uneasy feeling for the potential or potential great disappoint with each of his new offerings. What am I going to do about it? Wow, that seems pretty personal – what’s with all the questions buddy?

So after some breath-taking, yet completely derivative (of himself) images from Alice in Wonderland, I’m actually really happy about the latest poster release.

Or maybe I’m just happy whenever he rediscovers primary colors:

It’s bright, beautiful, showcases the characters (notice the downplaying of the biggest box office draw behind make-up and a huge hat), and seems like a strong blend of strange and pretty that Burton does at his best.

Of course, I have no idea if this is his influence or just some great marketing mind selling the hell out of a children’s film.

Either way, and without any hand-wringing, the thing looks gorgeous. Absolutely, goddamned gorgeous.

What do you think?
