Editor’s Blog: Bring on the New

For the past two years and some change, I have had the wonderful honor of being the Executive Editor here at Film School Rejects. And if there is one thing I have learned along the way, it is that the success of this website has very little to do with me. It is a realization that doesn’t help my ego-maniacal nature, but, it is a realization that is deeply rooted in reality. Let’s face it, without all of the Rejects who have brought their writing talents to our pages, we would be nothing more than a lame movie blog with nothing interesting to say. Not to be self-deprecating, I just don’t always have something interesting to say.

I tell you that story to tell you this one: I have some exciting news to share with you in this first edition of the “Editor’s Blog”, a little project of mine that will become a new staple of your Sunday afternoons from here on out. I am excited, because I get to announce some new features that we will be rolling out here on FSR, as well as welcome a few people to the team and to new roles on the team.

Kevin CarrFirst, we will start with the moving and shaking in the FSR staff. This is the first of a few upcoming changes that you will see, particularly to the editorial staff. Up first is my good pal and Fat Guys at the Movies co-host Kevin Carr, who will be stepping into the newly created role of Senior Editor. Kevin has been contributing to FSR for about a year now, and his contributions have always been received… well, they have been received by the public, lets just leave it at that. With this new position, Kevin will be lighting more fires all over the place, contributing more news stories and features to go along with his very popular movie reviews and his beloved (at least in some circles) drinking games. He will also be assisting in the planning of new features, new content and new ways to keep you coming back for more.

Kevin KellyI am also excited to welcome a new face to the FSR writing staff, Mr. Kevin Kelly. You may have already seen some of his work on the site, as he has been writing for us for a solid week now. Kevin brings with him a wealth of experience in the world of entertainment blogging, having written for and slue of popular site, including Cinematical, TV Squad and most recently he has been plugging away at Gawker Media’s Sci-fi site io9.com. He also once perpetrated some shenanigans and hi-jinx on the set of “The Office” while writing for TV Squad. That dose of brilliance can be found here. Kevin will be joining Robert Fure to complete our FSR Los Angeles Dream Team, where he will be covering all sorts of cool press events, secret screenings and SoCal shenanigans. Again, the shenanigans will be the focus.

Please join me in congratulating the two Kevins on their new existences. Now, on to some new features. Here are a few things that you should be keeping an eye out for this coming week:

Daily Grind: The News We Missed – Every day we seem to miss a lot of news. Let’s face it, we just can’t keep up with everything. But, in order to keep you in the loop, we will be dropping one big link-orgy on you every evening, recapping the stuff we just couldn’t cover along with the stuff about which we didn’t have enough to say. This way, we can work our way into becoming your one-stop-shop for movie news, movie reviews and unsolicited attitude. Alright, shameless plug done… moving on.

Weekend Update: Best of the Rejects – We always find it tough to think of stuff to write for Saturday. While we know that you do peruse the web here and there over the weekend, there is really never any news. So why not use Saturday to catch up on the best articles of the past week? The Weekend Update will do just that, bringing you the best articles from the week that was, all in one neatly wrapped package so that you can get yourself all caught up.

The Weekend Cheat Sheet – One of the questions I always get as a movie blogger is “What should I see this weekend?” My response is always the same, “What kind of movie are you looking for?” Our new Weekend Cheat Sheet takes both of these questions and puts them into action. Looking for a good date movie? A thriller? A family flick? A popcorn movie? We’ve got you covered. We will help you make all of the snap decisions that could make or break your entire weekend.

The Biggest Reject Loser – Kevin Carr, Brian Gibson and myself are all a little chubby. Alright, we are just plain fat and we know it. To combat this fatness, we have decided to have a little competition to see who can lose the biggest percentage of their girth by the San Diego Comic Con in July. What does the winner get? Well, its not as much about what the winner gets, its more about what happens to the losers…

So there you have it, four awesome new features that will join the ranks of reader favorites such as Robert Fure’s Boiling Point, Kevin Carr’s WTF, the infamous Reject Report with John Cairns and of course, the official podcast of Film School Rejects, Fat Guys at the Movies.

And thats not all, either. We have all kinds of stuff in the works, so stay tuned. As well, if there is anything you’d like to see more of, don’t hesitate to drop us a comment in the “Sound Off” section below and let us know — because after all, we wouldn’t still be kickin’ after all this time without you, our readers.
