Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘Ligeia’ One-Sheet is Beautifully Deadly

As a connoisseur of classic fiction, I was both shocked and pleasantly surprised to discover that one of epic horror novelist and poet Edgar Allan Poe’s (“Quoth the Raven, ‘Nevermore’.”) short stories is being adapted for the screen. The first official one-sheet for the film, based on Poe’s story Ligeia, was released this week (photo courtesy of ShockTillYouDrop) and as far as movie posters go, it’s absolutely gorgeous.

The independently produced film stars Wes Bentley (Weirdsville, Ghost Rider), Eric Roberts, Kaitlin Doubleday (Waiting…, Accepted), Michael Madsen, Mackenzie Rosman (“Seventh Heaven”) and newcomer Sofya Skya. Edgar Allen Poe’s Ligeia tells the tale of a young, successful writer, Jonathan Merrick (Bentley), who falls under the spell of the bewitchingly irresistible Ligeia Romanova (Skya). In true Poe fashion, the story paints a picture of Merrick’s journey, during which Ligeia entices him away from his fiancée and drives him to the brink of insanity.

John Shirley, who penned the screenplay for The Crow, is responsible for adapting Poe’s short story for first-time director Michael Staininger. Patrick Cassidy, best known for his musical contribution “Vide Cor Meum” to Ridley Scott’s Hannibal, composed the film’s original score.
