Feast your eyes on this new teaser that continues the exploits of Emily Prime.
There is no question that Film School Rejects is big fans of Don Hertzfeldt and his amazingly expressive animation. We love to champion short films and we even named World of Tomorrow as our movie of the year in 2015. Imagine our excitement when Hertzfeldt announced that he would be continuing the story of Emily Prime with another entry!
Officially titled World of Tomorrow Episode Two: The Burden of Other People’s Thoughts, Emily Prime will be visited by another version of herself, but this time she will be traveling inwards instead of into outer space. What was originally conceived as a way for Hertzfeldt to experiment with digital creation tools has become one of the most exciting and well-regarded projects of the 21st century. Hertzfeldt has a gift for making stick figures incredibly expressive and wickedly funny. Whether it is the cult classic collection of animated shorts entitled Rejected or his feature-length work It’s a Beautiful Day, it’s fascinating how much we end up caring for these stick figure drawings.
For those unfamiliar with World of Tomorrow (It’s on Netflix, watch it now you monsters), it does for time travel and space travel what any full-length movie has done in a fraction of the amount of time. Remember World of Tomorrow is a short film so in its 16-minute runtime it gets quite a bit across. The story focuses on a young girl named Emily. She is visited by a version of herself that is many times removed from who she is today. Future versions of Emily Prime show her the strange and unbelievable experiences that many of her clones have gone through in the years to come. It’s deceptively deep for what looks like something that might be simple.
World of Tomorrow Episode Two doesn’t have an official release date yet, but Hertzfeldt says it is coming soon.
