Djimon Hounsou is the Latest Actor Ready to Defy Physics in ‘Fast & Furious 7’

As if the next installment in the rapidly expanding and increasingly ridiculous Fast & Furious franchise, Fast & Furious 7, didn’t already bring enough star power to the table with returning favorites like Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Tyrese Gibson (and likely Dwayne Johnson, though his role looks to be be relegated to a cameo) and newcomers to the fold like Jason Statham and Ronda Rousey (and maybe Kurt Russell, though there are disputing reports as to whether his part had to be cut), first-time Fast director James Wan has just expanded the cast to also include a man who’s not only an Oscar nominated actor, but also a chiseled stud that made a lot of people blush when he posed in his underwear for Calvin Klein.

According to a report from Variety, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, In America) is the latest actor who will go from being a mere mortal to becoming a fast-driving, explosion-surviving, over the top superhero in the Fast & Furious universe.

Not much is known about what direction Wan is going to be going in now that he has control of the Fast franchise, but it has been confirmed that Fast & Furious 7 will be set primarily in Los Angeles, and context clues from the end of Fast & Furious 6 lead us to believe that most of the film will probably deal with Diesel and company trying to survive the attacks of the assassin character Statham is playing.

Depending on whose side of the Kurt Russell story ends up being true, he either seems to be playing a villain character who will have a small part in Fast 7 and then an expanded role in Fast 8, a character who will only be appearing in Fast 8, or it’s possible that his involvement could be scrapped entirely. If that’s the case, it’s not clear if the role he was meant for would be recast or rethought all together. They are planning pretty far ahead here, after all. At this point we’re probably only a couple of weeks away from rumors that Spielberg will be directing Fast 9 and Fast 10, which will feature Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise as the villains. This franchise just keeps growing like an adrenaline-fueled weed.
