David Dobkin to take on The Flash

With all the talk about the Justice League of America movie that is currently being cast by director George Miller, some details have begun to emerge around some of the solo projects for the heroes within the DC Comics Universe. Of course we’ve heard all the rumors about a Wonder Woman flick, but there has not been anything concrete. The Flash has also been a hot topic, as Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy was rumored to be taking on that project earlier this year. Of course, as these things go, Levy left for undisclosed reasons and is now serving as producer on a flick called The Rocker for Fox Atomic, a film that tells the tail of an aged, over the hill drummer played by Rainn Wilson.

Yet, as interesting as The Rocker sounds, I believe I was going to say something about The Flash. Oh yeah, Wedding Crashers and Fred Claus director David Dobkin told MTV that not only is he taking on The Flash for Warner Brothers, but that it will be set in the same universe as George Miller’s Justice League ensemble flick. He also said that it will follow the Wally West incarnation of the character, one of two incarnations that are said to be a part of JLA (the Barry Allen incarnation of The Flash is said to be in JLA as well.)

This sort of news raises one question: Can Vince Vaughn play The Flash? He has been in just about every other David Dobkin movie. In fact, come to think of it, Dobkin has never made a superhero flick, or even an action flick for that matter. Sure there was plenty of “action” to be had in Wedding Crashers and Jackie Chan did some wacky kicks in Shanghai Knights, but I’m not sure that qualifies Dobkin to take on such a large project. Then again, they did take George Miller for Justice League and I do remember WB taking a chance on a commercial director named Zack Snyder to adapt both 300 and Watchmen. At least they’ve been successful with one of those projects, so far.
