As the trailer nears the end, we see the terrifying torture machine the Skeksis created to remove the Essence of Being from captured Gelflings in the film. It harnesses the power of the Dark Crystal to take the youth and soul from Gelflings. The highest ranking Skeksis then drink the resulting liquid, providing them with eternal juvenility.
A Skeksi hisses “Tell no one” before a final burst of shots give us the last inklings as to what this prequel entails.
It appears we will be getting a lot of backstory on the Gelflings, with shots featuring a military and what looks like a prayer circle of some kind.
As the trailer ends on this note and with a flashy title card, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance promises a prequel with high potential. It remains faithful to Henson’s much-esteemed world while still upgrading the visuals for the modern day. This exciting and fast moving trailer should excite all fans of The Dark Crystal, even those hesitant towards a reboot.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance arrives on Netflix on August 30.
