After months of rumors, Firstshowing.net has confirmed that Jason Reitman, probably still high from the Juno love fest, will be directing the latest vehicle for Jim Carrey: Pierre Pierre.

The script, which Reitman has described as “one of the funniest scripts [he’s] ever read,” follows a Frenchman transporting a stolen Mona Lisa from Paris to the states. It was penned by writing duo Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton and could see a budget of $13 mil. Since that’s twice as much as Reitman’s Juno budget, Pierre should be twice as funny, n’est pas?

Carrey as a boorish ass of a Frenchman might be comedic genius or a horrible failure. Of course it’s always funny to laugh at the French, but Carrey is a bit more energetic presence than Ellen Page and Aaron Eckhart. Hopefully, Reitman will be able to reign in the right kind of performance from the man with the rubber face.

No word yet on whether Reitman will dive right into this after finishing up his production duties on Jennifer’s Body, but if he does, expect to see this gem emerge sometime in 2009.
